Outdoor Dance Project, 2019-2020
Tessa's Outdoor Dance Project began while preparing for a gig. Pushed out of her comfort zone, she landed in a public park! Rehearsing to overcome her nerves (for sake of the gig), she discovered how beautiful the landscape was that surrounded her. Thus, her one-year Outdoor Dance Project began! Filming once per month, here is the clip of her first experience dancing outdoors, August 2019. Enjoy! Click here to see September & October.

Tessa is the creator of "Inner Reformation: an Autobiography Danced," but she also loves to improvise. Performing at First Fridays in Kansas City, dancing outdoors with the wind, & taking screenshots of her improvisation is part of how she continues to develop as an artist. And boy, did she grow throughout this year-long experiment of outdoor dance!

The images below are authentic, meaning they are not staged but are actual shots of Tessa dancing. There is no photographer. Instead, Tessa videos as she moves, which enables her to capture these stunning images.
Unique to Tessa is the way she utilizes breath & sound while she moves. Yes, she does dance improvisation while doing outdoor dance, but her improvisation is guided, having a series of movements that she strives to carry out. In other words, she knows HOW she wants to move, but she doesn't exactly know WHAT move will be next. Hence, her photos can be surprising & striking.

Regarding dancing outdoors, Tessa enjoys the gorgeous backdrop that is created. The sounds of the bugs and the wind, the movement of the grass & clouds (and the way the wind moves her hair and clothing), it's delightful! The colors of the natural landscape, being connected to the earth with her bare feet, the bugs flying across the computer screen, & dancing while her children play outdoors--she loves this!
Tessa will be creating new videos & images each month. Click here to see more!
